(SLRDI), in a joint venture with Cebu Discovery Bay Properties Inc., launched last Saturday Discovery Bay Resort and Residences. Situated in Barangay Punta Engaño, the 13-hectare commercial and residential site is scheduled to open after four years.“This is our first super upscale project in Cebu,” said Exequiel Robles, president and chief executive officer of SLRDI.

Good market
Robles said there is a “good market” for condominiums in Cebu due to the province’s limited space for development and the increasing cost of land ownership. He said SLRDI is planning to develop medium- and high-rise buildings in Cebu and Mactan Island in the next three years. Apart from Cebu, Manila, Baguio, Cavite, Laguna, Tagaytay, Davao, Iloilo and Bacolod, Robles said SLRDI considers Bohol as another “prospective market.” SLRDI plans to develop residential and commercial areas in that province, he said in an interview during the launching. SLRDI’s residential projects, which mostly cater to the middle- to high-end markets include: Residencia de Vistamar and Vista Grande in Talisay City; Greenville Heights in Consolacion; Greenwoods in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City; and Glen Rose in Carcar.Discovery Bay Properties Inc. managing director Jeanfranco Espina said the resort and residential estate will be a “lifestyle resort village” catering to both foreign and local high-end markets in Cebu.

“We are selling a dream, a lifestyle where you can combine leisure and business in one place,” Espina said. Discovery Bay Resort and Residences, which will be located along the Hilutungan Channel at the northern tip of Mactan island, will have 10 commercial lots whose sizes range from 900 to 1,200 square meters. It will also offer 205 saleable residential lots with areas ranging from 150 to 200 square meters, according to Eduardo Terona, president of Orchard Property Marketing Corp. SLRDI will also build a 12-story tower on the property. Other amenities at the project include, a jet ski dock, gym, spa, restaurants and sports facilities.
